Issue/Introduction


This article details an issue when using the Outlook Connector for a POP email account.

When using the Outlook Connector to access your Hotmail or Live mail account, you are unable to receive email from your account after installing PGP Desktop.

This issue may be caused by a PGP entry in the Windows registry relating to securing MAPI mail accounts. MAPI (Messaging Application Programming Interface) is the protocol which Outlook uses to communicate with Microsoft Exchange mail servers.

Resolution


If you are only using PGP Desktop to encrypt a POP email account with the Outlook Connector, you can remove the PGP MAPI registry entry.

How to back up and restore the registry


Windows XP

  1. Click Start>Run.
  2. Type regedit and click OK.
  3. Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows.
  4. Double-click the AppInit_DLL entry in the right pane of the Registry Editor.
  5. In the Value data delete the OCMAPIHK.DLL or PGPmapih.dll value.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Close the Registry Editor.
  8. To apply the change, close and re-open Outlook.

Windows Vista & Windows 7

  1. Click Start.
  2. Type regedit in the Start Search field, and then click the regedit result in the Programs list.
  3. Click Start>Run.
  4. Type regedit and click OK.
  5. Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows.
  6. Double-click the AppInit_DLL entry in the right pane of the Registry Editor.
  7. In the Value data delete the OCMAPIHK.DLL or PGPmapih.dll value.
  8. Click OK.
  9. Close the Registry Editor.
  10. To apply the change, close and re-open Outlook.
