To use your Gmail account with PGP Desktop, you must first enable POP for your Gmail account within your Gmail account mail settings.
To use a Gmail account with PGP Desktop, you must edit the port and SSL settings of your Gmail account in Mozilla Thunderbird and the PGP Messaging service in PGP Desktop. PGP Desktop is supported on Mozilla Thunderbird 2.0.
Thunderbird Settings
- Open Thunderbird and click Tools.
- From the Tools menu, select Account Settings.
- Click your Gmail account from the list and select Server Settings.
- In the Security Settings for your account, change the Use secure connection to Never. The port should automatically change to use port 110. If necessary, change the port to use 110.
- Click the Outgoing Server entry in the Account Settings list.
- Select your Gmail account in the Outgoing Server(SMTP) Settings and click the Edit button.
- Change the Outgoing (SMTP) port to 25.
- Confirm or place a checkmark next to Use name and password.
- Click the No radio button below Use secure connection.
- Click OK twice to update your settings.
PGP Desktop Settings
- Open PGP Desktop.
- Select the PGP Messaging Control box.
- Click your Gmail account messaging service. The Account Properties are displayed.
- Click the Server Settings... button.
- For the Incoming Mail Server, click the down arrow to change the Protocol to POP.
- Confirm the SSL/TLS field is set to Automatic and change if necessary.
- In the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) settings, click the radio button to manually specify a port.
- Type 587 for the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) port.
- Confirm the SSL/TLS field is set to Automatic and change if necessary.
- Click OK to update the settings.
