Issue/Introduction

After installing PGP Desktop, Microsoft Outlook performance is sluggish.

Resolution

While viewing email messages in Outlook, there is a delay when switching between email messages. This issue may be due to a incorrectly configured WINS setting on the system.

When opening email messages, the PGP Desktop email proxy processes each message and attempts to look up information for that message. If a WINS entry is configured incorrectly on the system, PGP Desktop may be unable to properly resolve the name/IP address of mail server when email messages are accessed.

This article details how to modify the Hosts and LMHOSTS files to correctly resolve mail server host names.

Use the following steps to edit the Hosts and LMHOSTS files:

  5. Add the host name and IP address for your mail server.
  6. Click File>Save to apply the changes to the hosts file.
