Issue/Introduction

Attempting to access Oracle Applications Java Applet using JInitiator causes Internet Explorer to crash when PGP Desktop is installed. The crash prevents access to any of the Oracle Applications.

Note: This answer pertains to PGP Desktop 9.5.0 and 9.5.1 clients running on Windows 2000, XP, or Server 2003 with Oracle Applications that use JInitiator 1.3.1.25.

Cause

The NetShare DLL (PGPfsshl.dll) is not fully compatible with the Oracle JInitiator 1.3.1.25 software.

Resolution

Workaround

The workaround to solve the issue with the JInitiator is to unregister or disable the NetShare driver (PGPfsshl.dll).

Unregistering the NetShare dll does not affect the functionality of PGP Desktop. The effect of this is simply that the icon indicating that the file is encrypted is no longer displayed on PGP NetShare files.

To unregister the Netshare dll perform the following steps:

  1. On your client PC, Click Start>Run and type cmd in the text field and click OK. The Windows command prompt screen appears.

  2. Type regsvr32 /u PGPfsshl.dll and press Enter.

A Regsvr32 message will appear stating the command was executed successfully.

Note: This issue is corrected in PGP Desktop 9.5.2 and above.
