Domino's Log.nsf shows 'Your "MailServer" entry in the notes.ini or server document may be incorrect'

The lines for the mailserver in the notes.ini however are correct and correspond with the settings in the Domino Server document (Names.nsf).

 

 

Your "MailServer" entry in the notes.ini or server document may be incorrect.

 

 

Cause

The problem is caused by an Alert configuration that is incomplete or invalid, followed by a violation that triggers the configured Alert.
If the Domino server is not being able to deliver the email this entry ('Your "MailServer" entry in the notes.ini or server document may be incorrect') will show up in the Log.nsf.
 

 

In order to send an Alert in Symantec Mail Security for Domino (SMS DOM) 8.0.7 (after a violation occurs), three variables need to be enabled/ configured:

1) Step A: Enabling the alert at the Basics tab: 'Enable this alert' (see the next screenshot)

NOTE: The next step would be to configure the Alert Conditions. In SMS DOM 8.0.7 the Alert Conditions are pre-populated.

2) Step B: Under the > Alert Messages > Administrator tab: enabling an Alert to be sent to specified administrators: 'Send following alert to specified administrators' (see the next screenshot)

3) Step C: The actual email address you enter for ‘specified administrators’ (see the next screenshot)

 

'Your "MailServer" entry in the notes.ini or server document may be incorrect' will appear in the Log.nsf under the following conditions:

If the Alert on the Basics tab is enabled, but the setting for 'Send following alert to specified administrators' under the > Alert Messages > Administrator tab is NOT enabled.

or

An invalid email address is used for Specified administrators under the > Alert Messages > Administrator tab.

 

 

Resolution

 

The entry 'Your "MailServer" entry in the notes.ini or server document may be incorrect' in Log.nsf can be prevented by taking the following two steps:

  1. Enable the Alert on the Basics tab, as well as the setting for 'Send following alert to specified administrators' under the > Alert Messages > Administrator tab.
  2. Enter valid email addresses for Specified administrators under the > Alert Messages > Administrator tab.

 

NOTE: Instead of enabling the sending of an Alert Message to Specified Administrator, the log entry can also be prevented by enabling the sending of an Alert Message to either the Document Author or the Document Recipient
