The Symantec Management Client service depends on the System Event Notification service which failed to start

Issue/Introduction

The Symantec Endpoint Protection client is not accessible because the Symantec Management Client service is not able to start.

When attempting to start the Symantec Management Client service the following message is displayed.

In the Windows Events Log you can find a message equal or similar to

Cause

A dependency service is set to disabled (or not able to start). In this particular example the System Event Notification service.

Resolution

Check the System log for error messages related to 'Service Control Manager' (Event ID 7001).
Type of Event log message: "The Symantec Endpoint Protection service depends on the <service_name> service which failed to start because of the following error:
The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.

 

In the Services window (services.msc) locate the mentioned (System Event Notification) service and start it.

One may also check the dependencies of the Symantec Management Client and assure they are running.
