Issue/Introduction

The 14.3.x Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM) uses Apache Tomcat and you have the following questions.

  • How can I determine the version of Tomcat which is installed with the SEPM.
  • Can I update the version of Apache directly on my SEPM?

Environment

Symantec Endpoint Protection 14.3.x

Resolution

The Tomcat component that is built into the SEPM is updated with periodic releases of Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP).  Information on updates can often be found in the release notes. We recommend that you always use the latest release of SEP to take advantage of the latest enhancements and improvements.

How can I determine the version of Tomcat which is installed with the SEPM.

To find the version of Tomcat the SEPM is currently using, follow these steps:

  1. Locate the .jar file named: <SEPM install folder>\tomcat\lib\catalina.jar.
  2. Make a copy of the file, paste it in a different directory.
  3. Use a utility capable of extracting the .jar file.
  4. Once extracted, navigate to the path org\apache\catalina\util\ServerInfo.properties
  5. Open ServerInfo.properties and find the server.number= line to view the Tomcat version number.

Can I update the version of Apache Tomcat, PHP, java or other embedded components directly on my SEPM?

Manually upgrading the embedded components including Tomcat, PHP, java and others "in use" by the On Prem SEPM is not supported.  Upgrading the SEPM to the latest version available is the only way to upgrade the embedded components to the latest versions available.
