Issue/Introduction

Why does the connection test fail for new locations added to a Distribution Center while configuring LiveUpdate Administrator 2.x?

Symptoms
When you click test for a new Location you have created for a Distribution Center, you receive the error "Connection to [location name] failed."

Connection to [location name] failed.

Cause

The function to configure a new Distribution Center does not automatically create an associated Windows directory structure. The directory structure must already exist for the Distribution Center configuration to test successfully.

Resolution

Follow the procedure below to create the necessary corresponding folders, and to edit the clu.properties file accordingly.

  1. Copy the following folder: C:\Program FIles\Symantec\Liveupdate Administrator\tomcat\webapps\clu-test\
  2. Paste the copy in the same directory. (i.e. C:\Program FIles\Symantec\Liveupdate Administrator\tomcat\webapps\)
  3. Rename the folder to whatever you want. (e.g. clu-test2)
  4. Edit the clu.properties file in the following location: C:\Program Files\Symantec\Liveupdate Administrator\tomcat\webapps\clu-test2\WEB-INF\classes\
  5. Change the referenced folder to clu-test2. (i.e. CLU_DIR=C:\\Program Files\\Symantec\\Liveupdate Administrator\\clu-test2 )
  6. Create the clu-test2 folder in the specified directory. (C:\Program Files\Symantec\Liveupdate Administrator\)
  7. Add the distribution center within LUA. The address will be http://Server:7070/clu-test2.
