Issue/Introduction

How to setup Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) clients and Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM) if they are localised for different languages.

Symptoms
An English language SEPM has been installed and there is a need to connect client computers which have been installed in different languages.

Cause

A company has several small branches worldwide which are communicating via WAN with the Headquarters. Each branch has SEP clients installed which are communicating with a central SEPM.

Resolution

For each international branch the localized SEP Client Installation package needs to be installed in the SEPM .

1. Download the language specific SEP Installation CD and decompress it

2. Install the package in SEPM:

  • In the SEPM select "admin" in the left side pane.
  • Select "Install Packages"
  • Under "Tasks" select "Add a Client Installation Package"
  • Type the name of the package such as "SEP 11.0.6 GER 32 Bit" in the "Specify a name for this package:" area.
  • Use the Browse button to select the path to the package. Example: Symantec_Endpoint_Protection_11.0.6_Xplat_GE_DVD\SEPM\Packages\SAV32.info

3. For convenience create groups for each language branch.  It is most efficient to organize by language so that clients only receive content applicable to them.

4. Deploy the relevant language package to each international branch using find unmanaged computers or by exporting the package and using the deployment wizard
