Issue/Introduction

This tech note is appropriate for Symantec Endpoint Encryption versions 8.x and earlier.
It is not appropriate or supported with Symantec Endpoint Encryption 11.x and later.
Standalone drive encryption is recommended with Symantec Encryption Desktop version 10.x

Symptoms

The environment where you want to install and use SEE may be missing one or all of the following:
- An Active Directory Domain
- Server-class operating systems (ie: an OS capable of running IIS 6.0 or greater)
- SQL Server 2005 or 2008

Resolution

You will need to install SEE in "Serverless Mode"

For the most part, this installation proceedure is the same as the full deployment. The only major difference is that you do not have to have to setup the Management Server. Because of this, SEE will not use IIS or Active Directory.

Detailed steps:

Part 1: Installing the Management Software
1. Extract the Full Disk folder
2. Open the SEE-Full Disk\Server Installers folder
3. Run Symantec Endpoint Encryption Framework.msi
- Select "Password authentication only"
- Uncheck "Use SEE Server"

- To setup the One-Time Password, click Browse > Ok > Next
- Set a password
4. Run Symantec Endpoint Encryption Full Disk Edition.msi
- No configuration settings are required, just click Next > Next > Next...
5. Run Symantec Endpoint Encryption One-Time Password.msi (Optional)
- No configuration settings are required, just click Next > Next > Next...
6. Log into the SEE Manager
- Start > Programs > Symantec Endpoint Encryption Manager

Part 2: Creating client installation packages (configure each package according to the environment's requirements)
1. Open the SEE Management Console
2. Run through the wizard: Symantec Endpoint Encryption Software Setup > SEE Framework
3. Run through the wizard: Symantec Endpoint Encryption Software Setup > SEE Full Disk

Part 3: Install the packages on the computer that you want to encrypt
1. Run "Symantec Endpoint Encryption Framework Client.msi"
2. When prompted, do NOT restart
3. Run "Symantec Endpoint Encryption Full Disk Client.msi"
4. Reboot
5. Register after logging back into Windows, register with SEE

Special Considerations:
When exporting the SEE Client Framework Install Package, make sure to configure the following option for the serverless client:
 - If you use the One-Time Password feature, set the Default method to "Offline"
