Issue/Introduction

Error when attempting to log on to the SEP Manager console: "The Java Virtual Machine has exited with a code of -1, the service is being stopped."
Unable to start SEP Manager service

Symptoms
The following error messages appear:

"The SEP Manager service is stopped. The service can be started but stops again after several seconds."

In the Windows Event Viewer / Application Log:
Event ID: 4096
Source: SemSrv
Description: The Java Virtual Machine has exited with a code of -1, the service is being stopped.

SCM-Server-0.log:
HTTP 500 Internal Server Error, URL: http://localhost/secars/secars.dll?action=34
On Win 2008 R2 server: HTTP 500 Internal Server Error, URL: http://localhost:8014/secars/secars.dll?action=34

Cause

Default AppPool is disabled or is running in 32 bit mode on 64 bit machines.

Resolution

Enable Default AppPool under Application Pool in IIS.

On 64 bit servers running IIS 7, verify that IIS is running in 64 bit mode:
1. In “Application Pool Defaults” verify that “Enable 32-Bit Applications” is set to "False."
2. Go to “Advanced Settings” and verify that “Enable 32-Bit Applications” is set to "False" also.
