Issue/Introduction

When running the Run configuration Exam and selecting a MS Office Specialist test which actually loads the Office program (the Word tests for example), after getting past the welcome and instruction screens, the program exits with the error, "The ITS exam engine has experienced an error. Please see the Certiport Center Administrator. (31)"

Cause

The Office program is attempting to create a file under C:\Certiport\iQsystem\Exams\Microsoft Office Specialist\My Documents however, this directory does not exist.

Resolution

If this directory exists before hand, there are no problems with the MS Office tests. There are two options to remedy this, either create this directory on the base system, or create it in your Office layer(s). It is recomended  the latter be used as it will then be easily distributed with the layer to each system needing it.

The modification to the layer is rather simple:

  1. In SWV Admin, double-click you layer to open the layer editor
  2. On the Files tab, under (Read-only) expand the System folder
  3. Right-click on [SYSTEMDRIVE] and select New > Folder. Name the new folder, "Certiport"
  4. Right-click on Certiport and select New > Folder. Name the new folder, "iQsystem"
  5. Right-click on iQsystem and select New > Folder. Name the new folder, "Exams"
  6. Right-click on Exams and select New > Folder. Name the new folder, "Microsoft Office Specialist"
  7. Right-click on Microsoft Office Specialist and select New > Folder. Name the new folder, "My Documents"
  8. Close the layer editor
  9. Export the layer and distribut to the clients.

Note: If the layers already exist on the client computers, a layer patch file is an option to distribute just the updated directory.
