Issue/Introduction

Scan Engine 5.2 is installed on Redhat server and when browsing to the web interface for Scan Engine 5.2 (https://localhost:8004), the error page is displayed.

To view Symantec Scan Engine administrator interface, please install Java Runtime Environment(JRE) 5.0 Update 6 or later.

When browsing from Internet Explorer, Scan engine page can be loaded without problem.
It's confirmed that supported Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 6 or later is installed on the Redhat server.

Cause

Java plugin for firefox is missing in the /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins folder.

Resolution

To verify if Java plugin is properly installed for Firefox, type "about:plugins" in the address bar of the firefox.
If it's installed properly in the firefox, firefox will display some similar to this.

File name: libjavaplugin_oji.so
Java(TM) Plug-in 1.6.0_16

If it's not installed, create a symbolic link in the /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins folder pointing proper java plugin installed on the Linux server.

ln –s /usr/java/jre1.6.0_16/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavapluginoji.so /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libjavaplugin.so

The location of libjavapluginoji.so can be different depending on the version of java installed.

Restart Firefox and browse to https://localhost8004 and Scan Engine page should be loaded successfully.
