The following error is received when trying to install Ghost Solution Suite.
ERROR: Unable to determine type of existing ghost installation. You need to manually uninstall the existing version of Ghost before installing the new version.
A computer that may have had or still has an installation of Norton Ghost may receive this error when installing a version of Symantec Ghost.
Uninstall the Norton Ghost product using the add remove programs.
If uninstalling Norton Ghost fails to resolve the issue, try removing the following registry keys as appropriate for your type of machine and OS.
Note: Symantec suggests that you export a copy of the registry before making any changes.
For a 32 bit machine: HKLM\Software\Symantec\Norton Ghost
For a 64 bit machine: HKLM\Software\Wow6432node\Symantec\Norton Ghost
If the above suggestions fail or does not fully remove Norton Ghost, then contact the Norton support team for further information on how to manually uninstall Norton Ghost. Once the Norton files are fully removed then the Symantec Ghost Solution Suite will be able to be installed.
