When adding a remote PXE server, during the install error "package terminated unexpectedly"

Issue/Introduction

When trying to add a remote PXE Server to a Windows 2008 box, the install process begins but part way though getting an error "package terminated unexpectedly".

Looking at the System Event logs on the agent computer gives an error that the Altiris Remote Install service was unable to interact with the desktop. However, since this service is generated on the fly and removed, there is no way to make the property change required to resolve the issue.

Cause

The Altiris Remote Install service has a setting (able to interact with the desktop) that is not allowing it to complete the install. Because the service is not persistent, the setting cannot be changed.

Resolution

Run the setup.exe from the computer that you are trying to install the remote PXE server on. Note that during the install, the default path for the location of the Deployment Server express share will need to be changed to \\(Deployment Server name)\eXpress .
