Issue/Introduction

If a user’s credential is lost or stolen, use the SendTemporaryPassword API to generate and send a temporary security code to the user’s phone number using SMS.  Depending if the phone number is domestic (within the US) or international, the phone number should be in a specific format.  Otherwise, the SMS message may not be sent or received.

Resolution

Note: Dashes can be in the phone number in the latest version of VIP.

When sending an SMS message to a USA phone number, add a "1" before the phone number. For example, if the phone number is 650-555-1234, the PhoneNumber field would be populated with 1-650-555-1234. The SMSFrom field would include the SHORT code.

For international numbers, include just the international country code before the number. For example, when sending an SMS message to Singapore phone number 6592123456, the PhoneNumber field would be 6592123456.  And the SMSFrom field would include the SHORT or the LONG code, depending on what you have set up on your account.
