Issue/Introduction

The following occurs when adding groups or users to a security role in the SMP Server.

Unable to export security data from WinNT provider. Inner: System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x8007052E): Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password at System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryEntry.Bind(Boolean throwIfFail) at System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryEntry.Bind() at System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryEntry.get_IsContainer() at System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryEntries.CheckIsContainer() at System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryEntries.get_SchemaFilter() at Altiris.NS.Security.SecurityDirectoryWinNTProvider.ExportDirectoryData(RecordData recordData, String domain, String searchString, Boolean wildCardSearching, Int32 pageSize, TimeSpan timeOut)

Environment

ITMS 7.x

Cause

This error can be caused by any of the following:

• Trying to add the users while accessing the SMP Server remotely.
• The application identity is a local account and does not have browse rights to Active Directory.

Resolution

Add the users or groups using the Windows interface instead.
