Issue/Introduction

Exporting query results to Excel (OLE) format generates "Invalid cell reference" error message.

Symptoms
Error Message: "Invalid cell reference".

Cause

When exporting an RMS/DCC result grid to Excel using the "Excel (OLE)" format, an error will be reported if the result grid contains more than 65535 rows. The error message is "Invalid cell reference in export!". Older versions of Excel did not allow more than that number of rows, but the new Excel 2007 version supports up to a million rows per worksheet. Consequently the row-count limiter in the RMS/DCC code is no longer appropriate.

Resolution

This quickfix will be included in the October 2009 PCU. To install this quickfix, please follow the steps below:

1. Close any running RMS/DCC client consoles.

2. On the machine that hosts the BindView Information Server, stop the BVProcessManager service by using Windows' Service Control Panel (services.msc) or by running "NET STOP BVPROCESSMANAGER" from a command-line.

3. On the machine that hosts the BindView Information Server, and on every RMS/DCC console client machine that needs the new functionality, perform the following steps:

a. Backup the following file(s) from the RMS/DCC root directory, which by default is "C:\Program Files\Symantec\RMS", or "C:\Program Files\BindView\RMS" if you have upgraded from v8.0…
· BVReport.DLL
· BVPrintInterface.DLL
b. Copy the file(s) of the same name from the quick fix package into the RMS/DCC root directory.

4. Restart the BVProcessManager service ("NET START BVPROCESSMANAGER"), and wait 60 seconds for it to initialize.
