Issue/Introduction

Error = Bad Data. Error code = 0x80090005 importing session key BVRoot Subsystem - while running a bv-Control for Windows query

Symptoms
Error message: "Error occurred while querying server. Reporting Module caused: Cryptography decryption failed: Error = Bad Data. Error code = 0x80090005 importing session key BVRoot Subsystem." appears


Cause

Incorrect credentials in the credentials database in bv-Control for Windows or corruption of credentials database.

Resolution


I - Enter correct credentials in the credential database:
  1. Select Bindview RMS Configuration from the RMS console.
  2. On the right side pane double click Credentials Manager.
  3. In the Credential Manager window expand the credential database. Supply the password for the credential database.
  4. Select the user whose credentials have to be changed.
  5. In the Credential operations click Modify.
  6. In the Credentials dialog box specify the new password for the user.
  7. Exit the Credentials Manager.

OR

II - Create a new credential database & assign it to the user from the User Manager:
  1. Select Bindview RMS Configuration from the RMS console.
  2. On the right side pane double click Credentials Manager.
  3. Under Database Operations | Click Add | Create a new credentials database
  4. Under the Credential operations click Modify.
  5. Under Query Credentials select General Query Credentials | Under Active Directory select the domain to be queried & assign the correct credentials to the credential database.
  6. In Bindview RMS Configuration | Click User Manager | Select the User & click Modify
  7. Go to Credential Databases tab | Select the newly created credential database and enter the new credential database password. | Click Ok
