Issue/Introduction

In Ghost Solution Sutie you recieve an error while adding a license file (.slf) to the Ghost Console. 

Failed to install License, Error -The license is for a version earlier than the version requested.

Failed to Install License, Error - The license starts in the future.

Environment

Ghost Solution Suite 3.x (GSS)

Cause

The .slf file is for a version earlier than the currently installed version.
The .slf file has a hard set start date and that date has not yet been satisfied. 

Resolution

Go to Help > About 

1. Make note of the exact version and build currently installed.
2. Open the .slf file that is trying to be added in a txt editor like Notepad.
3. Note the Product and Version it lists and the start date 
   • If the versions match, call technical support for technical assistance: 
   • If the version in the .slf file is for a previous version, or a newer version of the product, you will need to contact Symantec licensing to get an updated license file.
   • If the Start date has not yet been realised then it could be attempted to be added after that date or you will need to contact Symantec licensing to get an updated license file.
