Issue/Introduction

Is Ghost designed to clone Domain Controllers?

Symptoms
Cannot log into cloned Domain Controllers.

 

Cause

Microsoft secures Domain Controllers by locking them to a disk signature. Since a cloned Domain Controllers would have new disk signatures, the clones would be not beable to be logged into and would not be of any practicle use. 

Resolution

Ghost cannot clone Domain Controllers due to security built into Domain Controllers, by Microsoft.

Symantec does not currently offer a way of cloning Domain Controllers.
 

Veritas Back up exec server edition or other server backup software should be looked into for Domain Controller imageing and backing up.
