How to Manually uninstall LiveUpdate Administrator 2.1 or later

Issue/Introduction

You want to know how to manually uninstall Live Update Administrator 2.1 or later LUA versions Or getting error code 1720 ,There is a problem with this Windows Installer Package while removing through Control panel.

Cause

Windows installer is corrupt on affected machine & unable to proceed with application uninstallation because of this.

Resolution

If using the control panel's Add/Remove programs does not work when you are trying to uninstall Live Update Administrator, the below registry entries and file/folder locations should be deleted after stopping the program's services:

  1. On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Run.
  2. In the Open box, type the following text:

    cmd
  3. Click OK.
  4. In the command window, type the following text:

 

    net stop “LUA Apache Tomcat”



5. Press the Enter key
6. In the command window, type the following text:

    net stop “LUA PostgreSQL”


7. Press the Enter key, then close the command window

Remove Symantec LiveUpdate Administrator from the registry
Most of the items that you must remove are entries in the Windows registry.


Note: You must have administrator permissions (read and write) to edit the registry.


 


WARNING: In the next steps you will edit the Windows registry. Back up the registry before you make any changes to it, because incorrect changes to the registry can result in permanent data loss or corrupted files. Modify only the registry keys that are specified.

To remove Symantec LiveUpdate Administrator from the registry

  1. On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Run.
  2. In the Open box, type the following text:

    regedit
  3. Click OK.
  4. Navigate and delete the following registry keys:

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products\29D9A80B70F03AD41B82AB890626E1B7

  5. Navigate and delete the Symantec LiveUpdate Administrator references in the following registry keys

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SharedDlls
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\Folders
    Note:Delete all LiveUpdate Administrator folder and all subfolders keys.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Components
    Note: All Symantec LiveUpdate Administrator Value name key use 29D9A80B70F03AD41B82AB890626E1B7. 



Remove Symantec LiveUpdate Administrator from the hard drive
After Symantec LiveUpdate Administrator is disabled, you need to remove leftover files to the program.


To remove Symantec LiveUpdate Administrator from the hard drive

  1. On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Programs > Accessories > Windows Explorer.
  2. Navigate to and delete the following folders

    Note: will need to stop the LUA Apache Tomcat and LUA PostgreSQL services  or reboot before purging the folders
     
    <OS Drive>\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\LiveUpdate Administrator\
    <OS Drive>\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\Java LiveUpdate
    <OS Drive>\Program Files\Symantec\LiveUpdate Administrator\
    <OS Drive>\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\Java LiveUpdate\
    <OS Drive>\TempDownload

3. Close Windows Explorer

 

This would completely remove LUA from affected machine.
