Issue/Introduction

You are attempting to install Symantec Endpoint Protection client and receive the following error message: "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable."

Symptoms
Error when attempting to install Symantec Endpoint Protection cleint: "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable."


Cause

This error can result if the MSI installers for Symantec Endpoint Protection are damaged or missing.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, you will need to ensure that previous versions of Symantec AntiVirus are completely removed. In addition, you will also need to ensure that Symantec LiveUpdate and AMS2 are also removed.
  1. From Windows Add or Remove Programs, remove Symantec System Center (requires restart), Symantec AntiVirus (SAV) and LiveUpdate (LU).
  2. Remove the C:\Documents & Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition folder.

    WARNING: In the next steps you edit the Windows registry. Back up the registry before you make any changes to it, because incorrect changes to the registry can result in permanent data loss or corrupted files. Modify or delete only the registry keys that are specified. For instructions, see How to back up the Windows registry.
  3. Launch the Windows Registry Editor.
    1. Remove the HKLM\Software\Intel\Landesk\AMS2 registry key (if present)
    2. Remove the HKLM\Software\Intel\Landesk\VirusProtect6 registry key (if present)
  4. Download, install and run the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility to ensure that all remnants of SAV, LU and AMS2 are gone.
    NOTE: The download for the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility is only the installer for the utility; after running the installer you must then run the utility from the Windows Start menu.
