Best practice calls for making regular backups of the data crucial to a Symantec Endpoint Protection environment. It is possible to schedule backups using built-in tools in Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM). Alternately, the Microsoft SQL Server Enterprise Manager provides a wizard to help set up a database maintenance plan. You can use the Database Maintenance Plan wizard to manage the database and to schedule automatic backups of the SEPM's Microsoft SQL database.
Note: Sysadmin access rights are required to run the Database Maintenance Plan wizard.
This article is intended to provide an example on how to run the Database Maintenance Plan wizard on a default Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM) database. Although SEPM database is used in this example, the same steps can be applied to any SQL 2005 database. Please refer to the Microsoft SQL Server documentation for more details on how to maintain a Microsoft SQL Server database.
