Issue/Introduction

How to revert virus definitions in Symantec Endpoint Protection for Macintosh ("SEP for Mac") or Symantec AntiVirus for Macintosh ("SAV for Mac") clients?

Symptoms
Technical difficulties are being experienced after updating virus definitions.

Cause

There may be an issue with the newer virus definitions.

Resolution

When virus definitions are updated via Java LiveUpdate (JLU) or via Intelligent Updater (standalone virus definition updaters), the previously installed virus definitions are backed up.

The two most recent backups are retained. To revert to an older set of definitions follow the steps below:

  1. Download and expand RevertVirusDefinitions.zip.
  2. Double-click on the resulting RevertVirusDefinitions.command program.
  3. Enter your admin password.

Result: If there are any virus definitions backups, you’ll be asked if you want to revert to the backup virus definitions.
