"Symantec Auto-upgrade Agent" service is not removed after uninstalling Symantec Endpoint Protection

Issue/Introduction

After upgrading Sygate Enforcement Agent or Sygate Protection Agent to Symantec Endpoint Protection, and then uninstalling Symantec Endpoint Protection, Symantec Auto-Upgrade Agent is not removed.

Cause

Resolution

To manually remove the "Symantec Auto-upgrade Agent" service fron the service control manager

1. Open Regedt32.

2. Locate and highlight the following key:
   
   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_SMCINST

3. Click Edit > Permissions.

4. Select the Everyone group, click Full Control, and then click OK.

5. Delete the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_SMCINST key.

6. Locate and delete the following key:
   
   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Smcinst
   

7. Restart the computer.
