Resolution

In scenarios where the VIP Enterprise Gateway installer does not have sufficient permissions, LiveUpdate components may not install successfully. As a result, LiveUpdate hangs at Checking for updates...

Download and extract the attached Live_Update_Client.7z. Follow these steps to add the missing LiveUpdate pieces

Linux

  1. Locate the Linux folder in the extracted data, then copy it to /opt/Symantec. Overwrite the existing folder if prompted.
  2. Add exec permissions to the Linux /tmp folder.

Windows

  1. Locate the Windows folder in the extracted data, then copy it to C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Symantec Shared. Overwrite the existing folder if prompted.
  2. Add read and write permissions to the C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Symantec Shared folder.

Log in to the VIP Enterprise Gateway console. Click Settings > Update Settings > Check for updates. LiveUpdate should successfully check for updates.
