IMPORTANT: This technote pertains to Symantec Endpoint Protection for Linux (SEPFL) release from 14.0 to 14.3 MP1 included. Starting with SEP 14.3 RU1, a new type of linux agent is used, it is recommended to use the new agent where possible. The list of supported OS and kernels supported by the new client can be found here.
--
This list outlines all Symantec Endpoint Protection for Linux (SEPFL) 14 releases and which Linux distribution(s) and kernel version(s) for which precompiled drivers (modules) for Auto-Protect are included in the SEP for Linux version package.
This list is NOT meant to be used to determine if a specific Linux distro and kernel version combination are ultimately supported by the SEP for Linux client. If the SEP for Linux installer does not include precompiled kernel drivers for Auto-Protect for the Linux distro and kernel version, an automatic process will attempt to compile the specific kernel drivers for Auto-Protect during the install process.
This list should not be considered complete and exclusive. Unless specified otherwise, kernel versions apply to both 32- and 64-bit kernels. Linux operating systems and kernels that do not appear on this list may successfully install and enable the Auto-Protect kernel module.
Before assuming the kernel isn't supported, test with the latest version of Symantec Endpoint Protection for Linux. If you find an issue with an auto-compiled AP module, open a case with Broadcom Support. The support team will work with Engineering to evaluate any compatibility issues on a case-by-case basis.
Note: Red Hat introduced RETPOLINE to their kernel starting with 3.10.0-693.21.1.el7.x86_64 to provide Spectre2 mitigation support. As of 14.2 MP1, our Auto-Protect startup script will not load pre-built AP kernel modules build with the CONFIG-RETPOLINE flag. Instead Auto-Compile will be triggered. This is to address an issue in which kernel modules not compiled with config_retpoline aware compilers will cause a kernel panic.
The following Linux operating system kernel versions have been tested and should successfully install and enable the precompiled kernel modules for Auto-Protect, or successfully install and enable the auto-compiled kernel modules for Auto-Protect:
