Patch Management Solution for Windows

Issue/Introduction

Resolution

The Microsoft Operating Systems: Windows 2000 OS was End of Life July 2010, and Windows XP OS which was End of Life in April 2014,  have had ongoing support as long as the Software Update URL's were provided by the vendor. However, these Software Update URL's have been removed with the following impact on Patch Management Solution:

  • These Software Bulletins will remain in the Patch Remediation Center; however, the Software Update Policy Creation Wizard is no longer able to create Software Update Packages nor Software Update Policies for the affected Software Updates

  • Existing Software Update Packages and Software Update Policies will continue to target and deploy for any updates which have not been affected by the vendor's changes

  • Setting on PMImport: 'Automatically Revise Software Update Policies After Importing Patch Data' will affect this recent change on the download import Patch Data process and significantly lengthen the completion time

Advisory: View INFO3460 to confirm process to rebuild Windows XP Software Update resource associations that have already been downloaded to the SMP Server.
