Resolution

Symantec Endpoint Encryption or Symantec Drive Encryption products are not compatible with other third-party Drive Encryption products.

Systems that are already encrypted with third-party Drive Encryption products must be *decrypted* and *uninstalled* from the system prior to installing Symantec Endpoint Encryption (SEE) or Symantec Drive Encryption (formerly known as PGP Drive Encryption) products.

Even the installation of such products could render a system unbootable and attempting to encrypt a system with Symantec Endpoint Encryption that has already been encrypted with other third-party software (and vice versa) will most likely result in an unbootable system that may not be recoverable.

Before attempting to install Symantec Drive Encryption products, first check that the system does not already have other Drive Encryption products installed, as each software vendor does not have detection to prevent this situation.
