When configuring Provisioning Manager to point to a new or different Provisioning Server, the setup process may fail. This typically occurs during environment migrations or server re-pointing tasks. The specific error message encountered is "Unable to create server registry."

Cause

The error is caused by insufficient permissions for the logged-in user. The setup utility requires administrative privileges to write the necessary configuration data and server pointers to the Windows registry.

Resolution

To resolve this error, ensure the setup is executed with elevated privileges:

• Log in to the machine as a user with local Administrator rights.
• Locate the Provisioning Manager setup executable (.exe).
• Right-click the file and select Run as administrator.
• Complete the setup steps to point to the desired Provisioning Server.
