Fail to deploy solution in VAPP - error code 8

Issue/Introduction

Deploying a Sandbox in our DEV VAPP did not deploy correctly.

The following errors were encountered during the deployment process:

[ERROR] Fatal deployment failure - error code 8

[ERROR] =============================================================================================================================

[ERROR] The service Provisioning Server failed to start after 3 restart attempts

[ERROR] Please open a support request at http://support.ca.com attaching the logs from all servers

[ERROR] In order to compress the logs, run the "compressLogs" command

[ERROR] =============================================================================================================================

Release : 14.2

Component : CA IDENTITY SUITE (VIRTUAL APPLIANCE)

Resolution

The issue had been caused by patching prior to the initial deployment.  The OVA was deployed, then the current Cumulative Patches were installed; and finally the initial deployment from the browser was attempted which failed with the error code 8 message.

The fix was to revert to the original OVA deployment, do the initial component deployments and verify they are available, then apply the current cumulative patches.
