Issue/Introduction

SpectroSERVER is not shutting down gracefully when using the stopSS.pl script.

Looking at the VNM.OUT file, it appears that sometimes using stopSS.pl to shut down Spectrum, nothing is logged after the line stopping CORBA communications.

Nov 21 14:06:22 : SpectroSERVER has received shut down signal - scheduling shut down
Nov 21 14:06:22 : /usr/local/spectrum/SS/SpectroSERVER is shutting down...
Nov 21 14:06:24 : Closing all client connections...
Nov 21 14:06:24 : Stopping CORBA communication...

Resolution

This issue can be resolved by ensuring you have the following parameter in the <SPECROOT>/SS/.vnmrc file:

bypass_corba_shutdown=true

This parameter is included in fresh installations but may not be present in legacy environments.
