DX UIM DB2 probe false alarms: SQL30081N A communication error has been detected

Issue/Introduction

My UIM DB2 probe generates unexpected alarms such as:

"database <databse_name> at instance <darabase_instanc> is offline ([IBM][CLI Driver] SQL30081N  A communication error has been detected. Communication protocol being used: "TCP/IP".  Communication API being used: "SOCKETS"

SQL30081N  A communication error has been detected

 

Environment

• DX UIM 20.x.x, 23.4
• db2 probe 4.x

Cause

SQL30081N error determines in most of the cases a network issue. 
Please engage your network team to investigate if there is any intermittent communication issues between the monitoring probe and the monitored DB

If at the time the probe generated the alarm you confirm there isn't any communication issue, then it might be that the probe generates this error due to the target DB not being able to respond within the default timeouts configured in the probe.

Resolution

Update timeouts in the probe configuration: 

• connection tab:
  Default connection timeout is 5 > increase at least to 30 seconds (Up to 5 minutes)
