Issue/Introduction

Our Oracle probe is sending unexpected/false alarms:

cannot connect to database: (ORA-03135: connection lost contact )


After some time, the alert is cleared. 

The DBA has confirmed that that database was not down and no network problem between our UIM robots the connected database have been observed.

Cause

The oracle error ORA-03135: connection lost contact is described here: http://www.dba-oracle.com/t_ora_03135_connection_lost_contact.htm
The oracle probe may generate this error when the target oracle DB is not able to respond within the default timeout coded in the probe.

Environment

Release :UIM 9.2.0
Component : UIM - ORACLE

Oracle Client Version 12.1.0
Database Oracle Version 11.2.0.4
oracle probe version 5.30

Resolution

1. open the oracle probe raw configure

2. go to connections

3. on the affected connections add a key/Value as below

4. timeout = 15 secs 

(an example of this key is visible in sample_conn connection)

5. Increase loglevel to 5 and logsize to 30000

6. now monitor this issue until you can see a new occurrence.
