Issue/Introduction

What does SAM need SourceGuardian for?

Environment

Release : 4.2 and higher

Component : CA SOFTWARE ASSET MANAGER

Resolution

CA SAM is, at its basics, a PHP web application. PHP is a scripting language that is used for web development. The key thing to understand is that if one explores the base content of a web application written in PHP, one can view the php source files using any text editor, leaving it open to direct manipulation at its code base.

The SourceGuardian component was implemented to encrypt the php source files in order to prevent CA SAM itself from being tampered with, and would require the php extension associated with SourceGuardian to allow the content to be decrypted for execution.
