Issue/Introduction

A Rally web services API (WSAPI) request is resulting in a 403 status response

Environment

Release : SAAS

Component : AGILE CENTRAL

Cause

There are generally two reasons this HTTP status is returned.
  • Insufficient access in Rally
  • Customer proxy server denying the request

Resolution

Insufficient Access
If the status response is being returned due to insufficient permissions, then the appropriate course of action is to resolve the issue with a Subscription Administrator.  This response code can be returned when trying to access data in projects that no access is granted for, or when trying to access data in closed projects.

Proxy Server
In some situations, a proxy server at the customer's site may be denying the request.  In this situation, the appropriate course of action is to contact the network team to examine the logs.

Additional Information

When searching the logs, it may not be possible to locate any reference to a 403 status if it is a proxy server actually throwing the response
