Is it possible to switch from embedded Java to Oracle Java ?

Cause

Previous versions of iDash, since release 12.0.0.00, have shipped with a version of the Java Runtime Environment published by Oracle. With release 12.1.0.00, iDash now ships with a JRE published by AdoptOpenJDK. This change allows us to package a JRE for more of the iDash server and CLI platforms iDash supports.

Previously, iDash packaged a JRE only for the Windows and Linux server installations. Now, a JRE will also be included for the zLinux installer. By default, iDash will be configured at installation time to use the packaged JRE.

For CLI packages, iDash has previously included a JRE for Windows, Linux, Solaris, and Sun x86. With the change, we will now additionally package JREs for the AIX and zLinux CLI bundles. The only CLI bundle that will not include a JRE for release 12.1.0.00 is for the HP-UX platform. Customers will still need to obtain their own JRE to run CLI commands on HP-UX.

Notes:

With this change, the Java Web Start component for running the iDash Admin Tool and Legacy UI thick clients uses a different underlying technology. Previously, the bundled Oracle JRE Java Web Start component displayed an Oracle Java splash screen. Now, the bundled AdoptOpenJDK JRE Java Web Start component will display a new splash screen referencing the new technology from IcedTea.
Please see the Compatibility Matrix for additional information.

Resolution

Users can change to their existing Java but we do not recommend that.
