Issue/Introduction

What is the explanation for the values in Device Type in OC Inventory?

Environment

  • UIM 20.4 or higher

Resolution

“Device” is an IP device where we don’t have any additional classification info, typically a remote target device of an agentless probe.

“Host” is an IP device and we have some basic classification info (e.g.,, Windows, Linux, etc), typically a UIM robot.

“Virtual Server” is an IP device and we have some classification info of this, virtualization host (hypervisor) environment.

“Virtual Machine” is an IP device and we have some classification info of this as a guest machine in the vmware environment.

Additional Information

Even if the vmware probe is not monitoring the VMs, but if it is configured to connect to the vCenter, the probe will discover the virtual machines.

The primary role can't be Host in this case (as the 'Virtual Machine' role takes precedence over 'Host').
