Issue/Introduction

What is the explanation for the values in Device Type in OC Inventory

Environment

UIM 20.x

Resolution

 

“Device” is IP device that we don’t have any additional classification info, typically remote target device of agentless probe.

“Host” is IP device and we have some basic classification info (ex, Windows, Linux, etc), typically UIM robot.

“Virtual Server” is IP device and we have some classification info of this is virtualization host (hypervisor) environment.

“Virtual Machine” is IP device and we have some classification info of this is guest machine in the vmware environment.

 

 

Additional Information

Even if the vmware probe is not monitoring the VMs, but if it is configured to connect to the vCenter, the probe will discover the virtual machines. The primary role can't be Host in this case (as the 'Virtual Machine' role takes precedence over 'Host').
