Issue/Introduction

 Seeing EDCB116I errors and Tomcat won't stay up. We were told to set Server port="-1" shutdown . How is this done?

What does the value of -1 do?

Environment

Release : 14.0 12.1

Component : CA OUTPUT MANAGEMENT WEB VIEWER FOR ALL PLATFORMS

Resolution

If 8005 is the shutdown port and you are on z/OS 2.3 (or have applied recent z/OS  maintenance), please change the shutdown port to -1.

To clarify, that would be
<Server port="-1" shutdown="SHUTDOWN">
What setting the shutdown port to -1 does, is nullify it.

Additional Information

If your shop is running z/OS 2.2, but ptf’s were applied in preparation for rolling out z/OS 2.3 or 2.4, you may also see this problem.

If you are running Tomcat as a started task, there is no reason to have to have a shutdown port defined.  The task will be ended by user command or JES, one way or the other... Somewhere along the way, IBM maintenance, and perhaps in tangent with system settings, stopped recognizing the Tomcat Shutdown port.
