Issue/Introduction
Various issues can be faced when the DB server that the application relies on, is experiencing high CPU usage:
- It becomes impossible to login to the application
- If users can login, they face difficulty navigating within the application etc.
Resolution
There are no generic recommendations that can be provided. The configuration can vary from system to system. However, some aspects that need consideration can be as follows:
- Conduct a sizing exercise to determine the right amount of resources (in terms of number of CPU units, memory etc.) that are required in the DB server
- Set relevant DB parameters to the sample parameters provided in the init.ora provided with the documentation
- Set specific performance parameters to the recommended values provided in the documentation
- Engage an expert DBA to review AWR reports for the relevant time frame
