Why does VTAPE recall from DUPLEX instead of PRIMARY

Issue/Introduction

VTAPE tries to recall from DUPLEX tapes, which fails with message

 SVT1PR108W 076420,02700000,00000000, PRIMARY ALLOC ERR , REPLY R(ETRY) OR C(ANCEL)

since the DUPLEX tapes are not available. Why are the DUPLEX tapes used instead of the PRIMARY tapes?

Resolution

The recall order can be set using the following command

SVTn SET RECALL={Primary|Duplex|Triplex}

* Switch order of Recalls on the subsystem where the command is issued

In order to recall from PRIMARY issue

SVTn SET RECALL=PRIMARY

The setting is saved in the local VCAT and is reused when VTAPE is re-started.
