Issue/Introduction

Is there a limit to the number of tasks that can be on a project in Clarity PPM?

Environment

Release : All Supported Releases

Component : PPMPRM

Resolution

There is no limit in the number of tasks you can have on an investment in Clarity.

However,  if you are exporting projects to Open Workbench (OWB) or Microsoft Project (MSP), as the number of tasks increase, it could cause performance to slow down, dependent on other factors such as:

  • the number of assignments per tasks
  • the duration of the tasks
  • the number of baselines exported to the scheduler

So if you do see slower performance when exporting to a scheduler, it would be recommended to break the project out into separate sub projects under a master project where possible or use other best practices such as exporting only the current baseline.

  • The change to only export the current baseline is made in PPM under Administration->Project Management->Settings.
  • IMPORTANT: Make sure no projects are currently checked out with baselines when this change is made or you will lose baseline data.
