Issue/Introduction

VMware counters are greyed out on Agent Linux running on Redhat 7 and more recent Linux VMs

Vmtools are installed, but they are open-vm tools and are installed on a different path than previous VMWare libraries.

Example of messages in sldrmd.log:

coll - Trying to detect if this is a Virtual Machine (VMGuestLib enabled)...: coll - Type of machine detected : Physical (if its not the case, please install/update the VMTools)

coll - OS: Linux 3.10.0-693.2.2.el7.x86_64 #1 SMP Tue Sep 12 22:26:13 UTC 2017 (machine: x86_64)

Cause

Agent for Linux was looking for the library /usr/lib/vmware-tools/lib64/libvmGuestLib.so

which does not exist on recent version of the Openvm tools.

Environment

Release :5.8.x

Component : SYSLOAD

Subcomponent: Agent for Linux

Resolution

Workaround:

Apply sldrmd fix available in file attachments.

To do so:

  1.  Stop Collector Unix
  2. Backup file <SYSLOAD_HOME>/coll/conf/sldrmd
  3. Replace the file <SYSLOAD_HOME>/coll/conf/sldrmd by the one available in the Attachments of this article
  4. Start Collector Unix

Solution:

Script should be delivered on next available version of the Sysload Agent for Linux
