DISK BACKUP AND RESTORE

Issue/Introduction

We are attempting to incorporate a MERGE function to free up tapes for the Scratch pool.

Environment

Release : 12.5

Component : CA Disk Backup and Restore

Resolution

In the CA Disk Systems Guide, look up Sysparm DYNTUNIT. In that description there is a table of about 30 values relating to various tape types and capacity.

So, when you want to get the estimated number of new tapes that Merge would create, you would do this:

On the MERGE command, specify SIMULATE, and add this  Override:

//SYSPARMS DD *

DYNTUNIT34906

...as an example, for 3490/E 60 GB capacity tapes.

With this in place, the simulated Archvols that would be listed would be like this in the job output...

P00001   1 SYSTGN.DMS.M13

...

P00283   1 SYSTGN.DMS.M13
