Ways and considerations to shut off View backup processing and tape processing for a View database.
Should the SAREAS tape robotic server be running, or should that be shut down as well?
Does a SARFSS started task have any impact regarding backup and tape processing?
A View database stops creating any tapes with the following steps:
1) Setting SARINIT parameters as below,
. DAYS=NNNNNNN
. TBACKUP=NO
. TAPECLSL=
2) Make sure that the system does not have any automated procedures to run View backup as below,
. /F sarstc,[IDUMP|INEW|DUMP|NEW]
3) Make sure that there are no View SARPAC jobs to run, that will generate tapes.
4) After ensuring the above steps, the View SARSTC task would be started with the command below so that tapes are not created during the backup process:
. /S sarstc,OPT=STOPBU
* About disabling access to the existing tapes:
. Shutting down all EAS tasks will not allow tapes to be read.
. Make sure that the end users do not use the View online "L" command to load reports from tape to disk.
* A View SARFSS task just processes reports that are collected to the View database and SARFSS does not run backups.
