Issue/Introduction

What parameters will shut off View backup processing and tape processing for a View database?

Are there any other considerations?

Should the SAREAS tape robotic server be running, or should that be shut down as well?

Does a SARFSS started task have any impact regarding backup and tape processing?

Resolution

A View database will never generate any tapes with the following:

. SARINIT:
. . DAYS=NNNNNNN
. . TBACKUP=NO
. . TAPECLSL=

. Within the system:
. . Ensure that there are no automated procedures that would run a View backup
. . . /F sarstc,[IDUMP|INEW|DUMP|NEW]

. . Ensure that there are no View SARPAC jobs run, which will generate tapes.

Regarding reading tapes:
. Shutting down all EAS tasks will allow tapes to not be read
. Ensuring that no end-users use the View online "L" command, that would load from tape.

After setting the parameters and ensuring on the above, the View SARSTC task would be started with:
. /S sarstc,OPT=STOPBU

A View SARFSS task processes reports that are collected to the View database.
SARFSS does not run backups.
