Issue/Introduction
Can OPS/MVS receive SNMP traps from products like ConicIT?
Environment
Product: OPS/MVS? Event Management and Automation for JES2 - MVS Release:12.3z/OS
Resolution
OPS/MVS Event Management and Automation cannot receive and process SNMP traps.
If another Broadcom product can receive SNMP traps, it is possible that that product can send an API event to OPS/MVS to be processed by rules. If the SNMP trap information can be sent to a Mainframe product that processes it, and is able to produce an event that can be 'picked up' by OPS/MVS, then other possible solutions can use OMVS to call receive SNMP traps and send a message to SYSLOGD, which can then be sent to OPS/MVS as an Unix System Services (USS) event.
Broadcom's SYSVIEW product is a potential end-to-end solution judging from the description of the ConicIT software product.
There is another possibility with a feature, that OPS/MVS supplies, that uses Web Services to create an API event in OPS/MVS from a non-mainframe platform. Please review the Administering Guide - RESTful Web Services Chapter, with attention to the subsection of Generating an API Event.
Additional Information
ConicIT for Mainframes interfaces with various system monitors (such as OMEGAMON, TMON, SYSVIEW, and MainView). It plugs into these monitors using standard 3270 emulation. It extracts information from simple network management protocol (SNMP) traps, command-line tools, and other files.
