Issue/Introduction

Users are unable to save secret questions or answers when they contain the '?' character. This article outlines the configuration required to permit the use of the '?' character.

Environment

Identity Manager 14.5 & 15

Cause

The '?' character is currently configured as a delimiter within the ForgottenPasswordHandler settings, causing a validation error when the character is used in user-defined questions or answers.

Resolution

  1. Access the Management Console.
  2. Navigate to Home > Environments > [Environment Name] > Advanced Settings > Logical Attribute Handlers > ForgottenPasswordHandler.
  3. Locate User Defined Properties.
  4. Change the Delimiter value from '?' to a different symbol or character.
  5. Click Save at the bottom right.
  6. Restart the environment to apply the changes.

Note: The new symbol or character selected as the delimiter cannot be used in secret questions or answers.
