Issue/Introduction

This article explains a known behavior where specific password policy configurations are reset to default values after applying individual fixes (Hotfixes) or cumulative patches.

Environment

Identity Manager 14.5

Cause

This issue occurs when the module version used to create the fix or cumulative patch differs from the version installed in the target environment. During the installation, configuration files may be overwritten, causing password policy settings to revert to default states.

Resolution

To prevent data loss, follow this procedure before applying any patch:

  1. Navigate to the Password Policy configuration in the Identity Manager Management Console.
  2. Document all current settings for your existing password policies. You may:
    • Take screenshots of each configuration tab.
    • Manually transcribe settings to a secure file.
  3. Proceed with the application of the individual fix or cumulative patch as per standard documentation.
  4. After the patch installation is complete, verify the password policy settings.
  5. If settings have been reset, manually re-apply the documented configurations.
